It’s been a busy 2017 for The Steppas so far. As the Hilo five-piece finish out their west coast Legacy tour supporting Katchafire with Inna Vision, they also somehow found time to record and release their new studio single “Life” featuring New Kingston. If you follow them on social media, you know this song has been in the works since June of last year when it began as an acoustic jam on the sidewalk. It was leaked for a few days last month, but it will officially be available on digital outlets April 14th of this year.
One thing is for certain, “Life” is sure to be a fan favorite. It doesn’t steer very far from their island roots, yet still manages to infuse background harmonies that complement New Kingston’s verse seamlessly and soulfully. Star’s voice is sweet and crisp like a juicy apple, weaving a message that calls us to practice greater gratitude, appreciation and, above all, love. I dare you not to dance to this bubbly AF bass line, vintage in flavor and reminiscent of Third World songs from days of old. Simple yet addicting, “Life” is fresh without straying from the fabric of what makes The Steppas, The Steppas.
